Engagement:

  • Self-sanitizing Hand Hygiene Sink Study - Assessment of Antimicrobial Activity Using a Time Kill Procedure - Legionella, C diff spores - 2018.

This study evaluated the antimicrobial effectiveness of 2 ppm ROS water against Legionella (99.99% in 5 min) and C diff. spores (64% in 20 seconds).

  • Self-sanitizing Hand Hygiene Sink Study - Assessment of Antimicrobial Activity Using a Time Kill Procedure - S. aureus, P. aeruginosa - 2018.

This study evaluated the antimicrobial effectiveness of 5 ppm ROS water against MRSA (>99.98% in 30 seconds) and P. aeruginosa (>99.98% in 30 seconds).

  • Virtual Reality Analysis in an Active Operating Room, Vancouver General Hospital, February 2018.

Virtual Reality cameras were used in an operating room to analyze the congestion in the room with many staff participating in the procedure plus many entries an exists of staff were noted.

Project Role: Project Manager for Product Acquisition and Logistics and Scheduling of Mapping

 

  • That sinking feeling: eradicating Pseudomonas and Candida auris from a sink drain system using ozonated water, SHEA Spring Conference, April 2018.

This study showed that sink drains heavily contaminated with either Pseudomonas or C. auris could be decontaminated over the course of days by using a point-of-use ROS generating hand hygiene as a normal hand hygiene sink without manual cleaning of the sink or drain.

  • Evaluation of a Patient Activated Ultraviolet-C Radiation Device for Decontamination of Restrooms, SHEA Spring Conference, April 2018.

This study showed that rooms contaminated with MRSA and C diff could effectively be decontaminated by AutoUV without manual cleaning. It also showed that the dose and effectiveness were cumulative - multiple doses per day were more effective than single doses and the dose-response was linear.

Project Role: Project Manager for Product Acquisition and Logistics and Scheduling of Mapping

 

  • Three Year Follow-Up to 2015 St. Mary’s General Hospital AutoUV Study, November 2018.

Data loggers continue to monitor door position and UV status every second in the study rooms at St. Mary’s General Hospital. 680 million data points over a 3-year period were analyzed by University of Waterloo. Seasonal trends in number of door openings and UV disinfection cycles were not found. Some improvement in keeping doors closed and in the number of door closings triggering UV was found over the course of 3 years. Private bathrooms were disinfected 5 to 10 times per day, the soiled utility room 20 to 30 times per day, and the equipment storage room 30 to 50 times per day.

  • Effects of Automated UV Disinfection Device on Microbial loads on Surfaces and in the Air in a Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Washroom, Canadian Coalition for Green Healthcare, Anderson 2018.

 

This study showed significant bioburden reduction when AutoUV was used in a hospital bathroom.

 

 

  • In Hospital Study 

Initiated installation of UVC disinfecting lights in all bathrooms at the Vancouver General Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.


Collingwood General Hospital in central Ontario initiated many installations of EIP technologies throughout their facility to reduce the amount of harmful bacteria on high touch surfaces and reduce the healthcare acquired infection rate.

 

Events:

  • Richard Dixon and Dr. Elizabeth Bryce attended an international Copper Conference in Milan, Italy and presented findings on the copper alloy 'pilot project’ Prevention of Healthcare Acquired Infections in a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit done at Vancouver General Hospital. Also presented Deploying Innovative Self Disinfecting Copper Surfaces (DISCS) which was conducted over two years at four Canadian Hospitals.

Members:

  • Enabled donation from Teck Resources Limited to fund a new standard at CSA for cleaning and disinfection of healthcare facilities in Canada.
